Objects to place
Converge Gallery will be bringing in 2014 with a special solo show featuring new artwork by local printmaker and instructor, Chad Andrews. “Objects to Place,” featuring Chad Andrews, will open on Thursday, January 9 at 5PM with an artist talk to follow at 7PM. The exhibition will be on display from Thursday, January 9 until Saturday, February 22.
The name for the exhibition “Objects to Place” is reminiscent to the saddening moment that occurs after an exhibition ends. As artists, enormous amounts of creative energy, time and money are put into an exhibition that steadily builds up over a series of months. This build up leads to the highly intense moment of the reception which is followed by the month or so that the work is up on the gallery walls. At the close of an exhibition, we find it strange how the “art” turns into “objects”. These objects need to be moved, wrapped and stored. It is during the post exhibition depression that we often see the works in their truest light. With this new exhibition, Andrews is trying to curtail this effect by filling the gallery with objects to place that enable the viewer to see them in their truest light.
Andrews will be showing silicone polymer installations that explore his relationship with tobacco, new paper silhouettes, graphite drawings, and mixed media pieces that reflect his immediate world. His work on display will also reveal some new printmaking techniques discovered in his private studio, and some new subtle imagery that should creep up on the viewer.
